Cover Art Description
The cover art of A Journey Through the Diet of Central Oregon's First Nations is more than just an image— “Grandfather Paulina Sustain Us”, a portal into a world where land, tradition, and spirit intertwine. Painted by Dr. Collins himself, it breathes life into the ancestral wisdom that has sustained First Nations for centuries.
Amidst sacred Cedar and White Sage, tribal elders invoke the Dream-Time, bridging past and present. Chief Paulina of the Paiute stands eternal. Camas roots bloom, Salmon leap at Celilo Falls, and Huckleberries sweeten long winters. Elk, rabbit, mushrooms, and pine nuts—all portrayed as offerings from nature, harvested with reverence.
Set against black gesso, this acrylic masterpiece is a visual echo of the e-book’s mission: to remember, respect, and rekindle our connection to food as a sacred act.
